Give that boy a medal
I was yelling at the screen tonight baby. "You GO Aaron!!!! Badass!"
Tonight was yet another in a string of rocking episodes. Even if it was Jack-light. Yes this episode didn't have much Jack. But you know, I was okay with that. I enjoyed watching McGill lose it completely and force Audrey and Chloe to work covertly to help Jack. But I will say that I hope him being carted off to holding is not how Sean Astin goes out on the show. I want to closure there if he's to be gone for good. His sister still has his key card - where were they going with that? Was it just to show some extra pressure he's under? Maybe, but it didn't feel like that.
Anyway... A good chunk of the show was devoted to enduring President Logan. God I can barely stand to look at the screen when he's on. The man just oozes... well I don't know what he oozes, he just oozes. Ugh.
But we had to endure because if you remember (and if you don't just scroll down to last week's recap :) Mad Martha got into the Suvarov's limo in an attempt to get Logan to recall their motorcade and save them. But Logan just couldn't do it because if he did, Bierko would know his assassination attempt would fail and he'd release the gas on America. So while I appreciate the rock and hard place Logan was stuck between, watching him whine and look around for someone else to make the hard decision for him is exruciating.
So while he's pretending he cares about Martha by gazing longingly at a photo of her and asking Mike to *shudder* pray with him (sorry, it was just icky in a way I can't fully explain) Jack is on his way to Omicron (I haven't checked the spelling of that yet so if anyone knows, leave a comment) to talk to Chris Henderson. We learn that Henderson is someone Jack had to turn in for being dirty. I'm wondering if he was one of the agents Jack had to turn in during Season One - remember that? Probably, and if so, what a neat little tie-in to Jack's past :)
Jack has to get into the building covertly so Chloe and Audrey cook up a fake persona for him on the down-low because McGill is monitoring everything. He's sniffing around everyone's stations and abruptly questioning them if they deviate in any way from what they're supposed to be doing. He's firing poor little analysts too. He's about to blow.
But Jack gets in the building and confronts Henderson (after a brief reunion with his old friend, The Taser.) He convinces Henderson that the nerve gas that's in the terrorist's hands is the same stuff Henderson's company created and thought had been destroyed by the government. When Henderson finally decides that Jack's not yanking him he leads Jack over to another building where the gas was created because Jack needs the intel.
Meanwhile, at CTU McGill is just off the charts in paranoid ineptitude. It gets so bad that Audrey approaches Curtis about enacting Section 112. That means he'd be taken out because of mental incapacity. or something. Curtis witnesses one scene too many when McGill charges around the floor with security to take Edgar and Chloe out of commission. Well now that's the last straw. You. don't. take. out. Chloe. Uh-uh.
So Curtis invokes 112 and McGill is carted off to holding like a spoiled child who didn't get the toy he wanted from the store. But this is something I hope is resolved eventually because I don't think it's a good way for Astin's storyline and character to end. But that's just me.
So Buchanan is brought back out and Chloe, Edgar and Audrey no longer have to be covert because Edgar discovered some chatter that led them to believe Suvarov's motorcade was going to come under attack and they needed to warn Secret Service.
And here comes my favourite scene of the night. The Suvarovs and Martha were about to hit the "downtown corridor" where the hit was planned when CTU finally got through to Secret Service (thanks to Curtis and the well-timed takeover.) The motorcade began to turn around so the terrorists attacked anyway. They took out a couple of cycle cops and launced a rocket on the limo. My breath left my body when it looked like Aaron was dead in the front seat but as the terrorists closed in and used bullets and flamethrowers to penetrate the bulletproof limo, Aaron came to and took 'em all out with his gun and a well-aimed shot to the flamethrower which exploded and barbecued the baddie :)
It was awesome.
And Aaron is okay - Phew!. Oh and the First Lady and the Suvarovs survived as well. Now there's gonna be hell to pay when she gets back to the compound. Now she knows Logan was going to let her die. Dum da dum dum.
Now Jack followed Henderson into some kind of bunker and he pretended to start pulling up data. He laid a guilt trip on Jack about when Jack turned him in and then left the room on a pretense... locking Jack in the bunker with a bomb. Jack said it himself, "How could I be so stupid?" Aww Jack. You're so hard on yourself. It's just that after everything you've been through, you still have the ability to trust and to forgive and it's a weakness, but I hope you never lose it.
Jack escaped the bomb of course by moving it behind a second door and hiding under the floor (it was a computer room therefore it's one of those raised floors that allows ventilation and computer cables to run under it. And we learned that Henderson's in on it.
Bierko gets pissy with Logan and tells him he'll be releasing the gas on American citizens and there will be no further communication between them. Click. Buzz.
And hey! Next week we get 2 hours! How'd we get so lucky? :)
