Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

I have been bitching and moaning about Logan all season long and at last my wish is granted - because now the main focus on the show will be taking that rat bastard down. Oh yeah baby!

    Right the fuck on.

This will be sort of shorter than normal this evening I'm afraid because I've got actual *gasp* work I need to do before bed. My paper's in the middle of a big Movie Madness tournament all this month and I get to be the one to update the site every night. (Yes I'm plugging it here. Go vote for your favourite movie and I'll love you forever.)

So.... Jack has escaped with Wayne, Evelyn and her child and discovered that she has a recording of Logan speaking to Henderson about the day's events - most specifically David Palmer's murder. She tells Jack through her pain (remember, she had been shot in the leg last week) that she put it in a safe deposit box earlier in the day and she has the key.

Jack and Wayne head off to that bank manager's home to get him to open the vault for them by any means necessary. They left Evelyn in a motel room with her daughter - but Henderson's looking for her because he knows she's got that evidence.

At CTU, Audrey speaks to Jack and learns about Logan's deceit. They decide the only way to solve this problem is to involve Secretary of Defense Heller who's flying in from Japan. Once the evidence is in his hands and because of his integrity, he'll be able to topple the stupid president. W00t!

So Audrey and Chloe set up all kinds of secure phone lines etc. so Audrey can leave the building to meet Heller when he lands. On the premise of needing some shuteye, she leaves CTU - but not before the ice queen from Homeland has a tracking device put on her car - and also not before Logan calls her to tell her that Jack is to be arrested on site.

Why you ask? Because mastermind that he is, he's still a wuss and he's panicking again. During a phone call with Henderson, Logan whines about the fact that everything got out of control while Henderson rolls his eyes and tells him to suck it up - basically. :) The next thing we know Logan is on the phone telling the ice queen that he has new evidence (that he can't divulge of course) that jack was the shooter in the Palmer assassination.

Funny thing is, the ice queen is beginning to question the president's order. She's not so sure absorbing CTU was such a good idea now. But like an automaton, she follows orders and issues the arrest warrant.

Now here's something kind of cool - Logan is confronted soon after this by the Veep. The veep is someone I disliked at first but that's because I was being misdirected. Now I think he's cool - as soon as he told Logan Jack should be treated like a hero. You're damn right Veep.

But Logan dismisses him and goes on to give a press conference telling America the threat has passed, and he took all the credit to the slimy little....

And Martha is buying his bull as well. She feels bad for doubting her husband throughout the day and is seeing him as the strong person who handled crisis after crisis - selective memory is taking over now and they have a moment when she apologizes for not believing in him and we have to watch this gross old man make out with her a little. That just not something I need to see and I think I'm scarred thinking about Logan slipping Martha the tongue. *shudder*

    Moving on...

Back with Jack, he and Wayne infiltrate the bank manager's home, kidnap him and tie up his wife. I first wondered why they were going about it in this rough way - pretending to be thieves when they could have just flashed some credentials and ordered him to comply. But later I realized that the less the manager knows, the better.

So they reach the bank and get in. But as they wait for the vault's time release to work the manager recognizes Wayne. He convinces Wayne to tell him what's going on and then he becomes something of a hero by doing whatever he can to help Jack and Wayne. They get the recording from the safety deposit box and Wayne is forced to listen to the most powerful man in the country discuss David Palmer's assassination as if it's a mere annoyance. It's painful for him.

But while they are at the bank, Evelyn has passed out and her poor daughter is being traumatized by having to see her mother's blood on her own hands, and when Evelyn faints while trying to get to her to comfort her, she cries harder... and then calls 911. Which is being monitored by Henderson.

(On a side note, I just want to say that all I could think about during this scene was that poor kid IRL who tried to call 911 for his mother but they thought it was a prank and so did not send help, and then the mother died. I'm so sorry for that kid.)

So Henderson discovers Evelyn and forces her to tell him where Jack is. I'm not sure if he killed her and the kid or not - I hope not though because she's a hero too. Henderson sends his minions to the bank ahead of him to take position - but Jack sees them. He finds that his only play is to trip the silent alarm and get the cops to show up. The minions will engage the cops creating a diversion and they can try to escape.

All goes according to plan - but the poor manager is shot and killed. That was sad. Another death on Jack's hands he'll have to internalize. Later. Right now he's working on momentum and adrenaline.

Heller is meeting Audrey at the Van Nuys airport and so when Jack and Wayne escape in a cop car, that's where they're heading as well. He calls Audrey to tell her the words I have longed to hear all season:

(Quoting from memory) "We're going to have to take down the President of the United States."

    Yes! I actually woohoo'd :)

And for my lovely little anonymous commenter: Tick Boom.

A very cool episode. My sister has been sucked into the show so I got a call from her as soon as it was over (which explains the delay on this post - sorry she said to blame her) so we could rehash.

And in even cooler news, Today it was all over the web that Mr. Sutherland has signed himself a lucrative little deal with FOX for three. More. Years.

    Right the fuck on.
