JACK BAUER: {Voice over} Right now. Terrorists are plotting to assassinate a presidential candidate. My wife and daughter are in danger and people I work with may be involved in both. I'm federal agent Jack Bauer. This is the longest day of my life.

JACK BAUER: [Voice over] The following takes place between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the day of the California Presidential primary.

[Elizabeth Nash and Alexis Drazen are on the bed in Alexis's hotel room making love.]

INT. C.T.U. MAIN DOOR

[Senator Palmer is talking to Tony Almeida about why he needs to talk to Jack Bauer.]

SENATOR PALMER: I can go over your head Mr. Almeida. I assure you there will be consequences.

TONY ALMEIDA: I apologize Senator but we do have protocol. Our District Director Ryan Chappelle is working on a clearance. If I could tell him why your here

SENATOR PALMER: All he needs to know is I need to talk to Jack Bauer and I need to do it now.

TONY ALMEIDA: Can I get you anything while you wait?

SENATOR PALMER: No.

[TONY WALKS BACK TO HIS DESK AS HE CALLS CHAPPLLE UPSTAIRS IN JACK'S OFFICE]

RYAN CHAPPLLE: Chappelle.

TONY ALMEIDA: Yeah I don't think I can stall the Senator much longer.

RYAN CHAPPLLE: What did you tell him?

TONY ALMEIDA: I told him you were working on it.

RYAN CHAPPLLE: And he still didn't say why he was here?

TONY ALMEIDA: Nope. He just wants to see Jack.

RYAN CHAPPLLE: Until I know more I don't want to put those two together. I'm checking it out now.

TONY ALMEIDA: All right.

[HANG UP]

[MILO WALKS UP TO TONY]

MILO: So? You find out why Palmer's here?

TONY ALMEIDA: Not yet. Any new Intel on the backup shooters?

MILO: Yeah. An Alexis Drazen. Looks like he’s connected to the two other shooters but he stopped in D.C. for a couple of days before landing in LA. on Saturday. There's other inconsistencies I'm still working on it.

TONY ALMEIDA: Where's the report?

MILO: I routed it to Nina's computer.

TONY ALMEIDA: Send me a copy would you?

MILO: Yeah.

INT. C.T.U. SECURITY SUV

[Teri and Kim Bauer are on their way to the safe house.]

TERI BAUER: I still don't understand why you’re taking us to a safe house. Weren't we supposed to answer a couple of questions at Jack's office?

NINA MYERS: We're going to do that at the safe house now.

KIM BAUER: Is my dad going to be there?

NINA MYERS: Not right now. Maybe when he's done at C.T.U.

TERI BAUER: Are we okay Nina?

NINA MYERS: Everything’s fine. Right now a small controlled environment is the most secure place for you both.

TERI BAUER: Does Jack know your taking us?

NINA MYERS: Of course.

[Nina's cell rings]

NINA MYERS: Myers...........Yeah we're moving them now. We should be there soon.

KIM BAUER: Mom. You never told me what the doctor said.

TERI BAUER: It was a cyst that burst. She said it wasn't serious.

KIM BAUER: Then why did she....

TERI BAUER: Honey, there's nothing to worry about. She said it would go away all by it's self.

***FADE OUT***

INT. C.T.U. HOLDING CELL

[Jack continues to tell Alberta Green what happened]

JACK BAUER: Gaines first made contact with me on my cell phone. He directed me to a car in the parking lot at St.Mark's.

ALBERTA GREEN: The transmitter was in the car?

JACK BAUER: Yeah that's when he asked me to put it in my ear. Look can we take a break for a second? Can you find out how my wife and daughter are doing at the clinic?

ALBERTA GREEN: Teri and Kim have already left the clinic.

JACK BAUER: What?

ALBERTA GREEN: They're fine. Nina is moving them to a safe house.

JACK BAUER: You knew they were moving my family and you didn't tell me?

[JACK STOPS THE RECORDER AND STANDS UP]

JACK BAUER: That's it. This is over. I don't say another word I want to speak to Chappelle...........NOW ALBERTA.

[SHE GETS UP AND LEAVES THE ROOM]

***FADE OUT***

INT. ALEXIS DRAZEN'S HOTEL ROOM

ALEXIS DRAZEN: Your exhausting.

ELIZABETH NASH: I was surprised you called last night. I didn't think I'd see you again after D.C. I'm not really that easy you know.

ALEXIS DRAZEN: Will you have another break later in the day?

[They kiss]

ELIZABETH NASH: The Senator has to leave town this afternoon. He's going to Nevada. Only a few of us were told about it and I am one of the ones who has to go with him.

ALEXIS DRAZEN: You have to hold his hand?

ELIZABETH NASH: In so many words.

[ELIZABETH GETS UP AND HEADS FOR THE SHOWER]

ALEXIS DRAZEN: Is it too much to hope that you might have some free time in Nevada?

ELIZABETH NASH: You would want to come?

ALEXIS DRAZEN: If you want me.

[Elizabeth GETS IN THE SHOWER AS ALEXIS GOES THROUGH NASH'S PURSE AND READS NOTES ON PALMER.]

ELIZABETH NASH: This is a pretty big shower there's room for two.

ALEXIS DRAZEN: I'm on my way.

INT. C.T.U. MAIN LOBBY

[Senator on phone with the pentagon]

SENATOR PLAMER: Alan.

ALAN OPTICAN: What can I do for you sir?

SENATOR PALMER: I'm trying to talk to a CTU agent named Jack Bauer.

ALAN OPTICAN: Where are you?

SENATOR PALMER: C.T.U. Los Angeles. They say I need clearance but it's taking forever.

ALAN OPTICAN: Not a problem. Who's in charge over there?

SENATOR PALMER: Ryan Chappelle.

ALAN OPTICAN: Yeah okay. I'll take care of this right away.

SENATOR PALMER: Thank you Alan. I owe you one.

[HANGS UP]

[RYAN CHAPPLLE ENTERS AND GREETS THE SENATOR]

RYAN CHAPPLLE: Senator Palmer. Ryan Chappelle.

[THEY SHAKE HANDS]

SENATOR PALMER: What seems to be the problem Ryan? Why can't I get in to see Agent Bauer?

RYAN CHAPPLLE: Please forgive the wait. When an Agent is under internal investigation, procedures is to keep him isolated until he's been fully interrogated. It's really out of my hands.

SENATOR PALMER: Even if I can help you with your investigation?

[TONY INTERUPTS]

TONY ALMEIDA: Mr.Chappelle. Alan Optican from the pentagon is on the line for you.

RYAN CHAPPLLE: Excuse me Senator. [PICKS UP PHONE] Chappelle.

ALAN OPTICAN: Alan Optican, Department of Defense.

RYAN CHAPPLLE: Yes sir.

ALAN OPTICAN: From this point on the Senator is to be given carte blanche. You make sure he gets whatever he needs.

RYAN CHAPPLLE: Yes sir.

ALAN OPTICAN: Understood?

RYAN CHAPPLLE: Yes sir.

ALAN OPTICAN: Thank you. [HANGS UP]

RYAN CHAPPLLE: [To Tony] Bring Jack Bauer down here right away.

[Tony walks away]

RYAN CHAPPLLE: Thank you for helping me cut through the red tape.

SENATOR PALMER: I want all your cameras and recording equipment shut down. This is going to be a private conversation.

RYAN CHAPPLLE: I understand. I'll make sure the room is secure.

SENATOR PALMER: Thank you.

***CUT TO***

[HOLDING CELL]

[Tony opens up the door]

TONY ALMEIDA: Hey Jack.

JACK BAUER: Hey.

TONY ALMEIDA: Listen. Nina called. She wanted me to tell you Teri and Kim are fine.

JACK BAUER: Who's guarding the house?

TONY ALMEIDA: Paulson and Breeher.

JACK BAUER: Okay good.

TONY ALMEIDA: Also Chappelle wants to see you in the conference room.

JACK BAUER: Good.

[JACK GETS UP AND MAKES HIS WAY TO THE CONFERENCE ROOM BUT NOT BEFORE HE RUNS INTO MILO.]

JACK BAUER: Milo. Sorry I had to switch the cards on you last night. I had no choice.

MILO: No problem. We understand what you were going through.

JACK BAUER: Thanks for your help.

[JACK ENTERS THE ROOM ONLY NOT TO FIND CHAPPLLE. HE FINDS SENATOR PALMER IN THE ROOM]

JACK BAUER: [Surprised] Senator Palmer.

SENATOR PALMER: [To his guards] Leave us..... [To Jack] Close the door. Sit.

JACK BAUER: Yes sir.

SENATOR PALMER: I want to know who's working with you.

JACK BAUER: In which context sir?

SENATOR PALMER: Right here, right now. We're going to end this.

JACK BAUER: Sir I don't know what they told you.....

SENATOR PALMER: [RAISES HIS VOICE] I KNOW WHY YOU WANT ME DEAD.

JACK BAUER: WANT YOU DEAD SENATOR I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT.

SENATOR PALMER: KOSOVO.

JACK BAUER: Kosovo?

SENATOR PALMER: I know you hold me responsible for the lose of your men. Two years ago today.

JACK BAUER: You know about operation Nightfall?

SENATOR PALMER: I authorized the mission. I know you took out Victor Drazen and his inner circle. I know you lost six men in the process.

JACK BAUER: And you think I want revenge?

SENATOR PALMER: Yes I do.

[JACK STANDS UP AND STARTS YELLING]

JACK BAUER: WITH ALL DUE RESPECT I ALMOST DIED TODAY TRYING TO PROTECT YOU. IF I BLAME ANYONE FOR THE DEATH OF MY MEN IN KOSOVO I BLAME MYSELF.

SENATOR PALMER: THEN WHAT WERE YOU DOING AT THE POWER PLANT?

JACK BAUER: I WAS TRYING....[Jack Calms down] The reason why I went for that secret service agent's gun was to try and get you out of the room without giving myself away.............The people that want you dead, they had kidnapped my family. They threatened to kill them if I didn't assist them in the assassination attempt.

[PALMER WITH A SHOCKED LOOK ON HIS FACE]

JACK BAUER: They didn't tell you any of this when you came in, did they sir?

SENATOR PALMER: No.

JACK BAUER: It's the truth. You can verify it with Chappelle.

EXT. THE SAFE HOUSE

[The SUV is pulling up to the driveway as Agent Paulson says in his radio]

AGENT PAULSON: Okay they're just arriving at the safe house.

AGENT BREEHER: Copy that.

AGENT PAULSON: This way Mrs.Bauer.

NINA MYERS: These are agents Ted Paulson and Jeff Breeher, They have worked for Jack for many years. They’re two of our best. This is Jack's wife Teri and his daughter Kim.

KIM BAUER: Hi.

AGENT BREEHER: Hi Kim.

AGENT PAULSON: Where do you want us?

NINA MYERS: One in and one out.

[AGENT BREEHER, NINA, TERI, AND KIM ENTER THE HOUSE] [AGENT PAULSON IS OUTSIDE.]

NINA MYERS: Well it's not exactly home but it's relatively comfortable. There are motion detectors every ten yards.

KIM BAUER: How long do we have to stay here?

NINA MYERS: We'll worry about that when we finish debriefing you.

TERI BAUER: Nina where's the bathroom?

NINA MYERS: There's one in each bedroom. If you both would like to clean up before we get started please do.

[KIM GOES TO ONE ROOM AND TERI GOES TO HER ROOM AND ENTERS THE BATHROOM AS SHE PULLS OUT HER PREGNACY TEST.]

***FADE OUT***

INT. C.T.U. CONFRENCE ROOM

SENATOR PALMER: I was the head of a special Defense committee in the Senate. Which means covert operations. Three years ago the C.I.A. brought to my attention atrocities committed by Victor Drazen in Kosovo. Massacres, torture, ethnic cleansing. The man was a monster and he was gaining support. I tried to go through the usual channels but I couldn't get anyone to work quickly enough. So I contacted the one person I knew who could get the job done. Have him terminated, off the books.

JACK BAUER: And that would be Robert Ellis?

SENATOR PALMER: That's right. Ellis was funded through a discretionary fund of my committee. His job was to implement the covert missions and see to it that no names were leaked. Now we're both on somebody's list.

JACK BAUER: So this is payback for what happened that day. That's the only thing that makes sense. But If someone could put your name and my name on a list together, That means they should be able to find Robert Ellis too.

SENATOR PALMER: Your right.

***FADE OUT***

INT. SOME BAR IN NEW ORLEANS

[Robert Ellis is playing a game of dice with a friend at a table.]

ROBERT ELLIS: Four sixes.

LENNY: Let's see 'em.

[Robert lifts the cup from the table]

LENNY: [Laughing] I knew it. I saw it in your eyes.

ROBERT ELLIS: If you could read what's in my eyes you'd crawl under a rock and cry........Go again.

[Ellis's cell rings]

ROBERT ELLIS: Ellis.

SENATOR PALMER: Robert, This is David Palmer.

ROBERT ELLIS: You've got to be kidding.

SENATOR PALMER: I'm not. I'm here with Jack Bauer as well.

ROBERT ELLIS: [TO LENNY] Get lost.

[Lenny leaves]

ROBERT ELLIS: What are you doing in the same room with Bauer? I went through a lot of trouble to make sure you two never met.

SENATOR PALMER: Someone close to Victor Drazen seems to have connected us.

ROBERT ELLIS: Explain.

SENATOR PALMER: Someone wants me dead, and it appears they want Bauer too. Today. The two-year anniversary of Nightfall.

ROBERT ELLIS: I'm the only one who even knows you two were both involved in Nightfall.

SENATOR PALMER: Apparently not. If we're on the list it's likely you are too.

ROBERT ELLIS: Let me talk to Bauer.

JACK BAUER: I'm right here Bob.

ROBERT ELLIS: Jack. You still at CTU.?

JACK BAUER: Yeah.

ROBERT ELLIS: All right to source this out we'll need each others help.

JACK BAUER: Well unfortunately over the last 12 hours I’ve had to cut a few corners. I'm being investigated right now my hands are tied.

ROBERT ELLIS: Get them untied. David can help you there. If this is about revenge it has to be someone connected to your team

JACK BAUER: No that's not possible. No one my team knew of the senator's involvement.

ROBERT ELLIS: Well then it has to be Drazen's group. I'll retrieve the closes file on nightfall. It'll contain the names of Drazen's associates. That'll take a few minuets. In the mean time you need to pick a trail on the money. Odds are it's funded through Belgium. Can you get to your k-3 accounts from there?

JACK BAUER: Yes if I get reinstated.

ROBERT ELLIS: Start there. We'll compare names when we talk again. Where can I reach you?

JACK BAUER: C.T.U. Los Angeles office.

ROBERT ELLIS: All right. [Hangs up]

***FADE OUT***

INT. THE SAFE HOUSE TERI'S BATHROOM

[Teri gets her test out and finds out that she is going to have a baby]

[Nina knocks on door]

NINA MYERS: Teri?

TERI BAUER: Yes.

NINA MYERS: I put some clean cloths on the bed.

TERI BAUER: Thank you.

***FADE OUT***

INT. PALMER HOTEL

[Sherry Palmer rushes in the room]

ELIZABETH NASH: They called me in and said you decided not to fly out. What happened? Aren't we going to Nevada?

SHERRY PALMER: The Senator needed to take care of something first. He thought we'd be safest here.

ELIZABETH NASH: Are you going to take a later flight?

SHERRY PALMER: I don't know. I hope so.

[Sherry goes to her room as Elizabeth walks down the hallway and calls Alexis Drazen who is sitting down outside at a small cafe.]

ALEXIS DRAZEN: Hello.

ELIZABETH NASH: You missed me yet?

ALEXIS DRAZEN: Of course.

ELIZABETH NASH: I hope you didn't book your flight to Nevada.

ALEXIS DRAZEN: I was just about to. Why?

ELIZABETH NASH: We might not be going.

ALEXIS DRAZEN: When will you know?

ELIZABETH NASH: About an hour.

[ANDRE DRAZEN ARRIVES AT THE CAFE AND SITS DOWN WITH HIS BROTHER]

ALEXIS DRAZEN: If you stay in town will you remain in the hotel?

ELIZABETH NASH: I don't know. They might switch us at the last minuet for security reasons. I'll let you know where I am.

ALEXIS DRAZEN: I can still smell your perfume on my skin.

ELIZABETH NASH: [Smiles] I'll call you as soon as I know.

[HANGS UP]

ANDRE DRAZEN: Is that the girl?

ALEXIS DRAZEN: Yes. Palmer might not be leaving after all.

ANDRE DRAZEN: Better for us.

ALEXIS DRAZEN: Yes.

ANDRE DRAZEN: Was there any problem getting rid of Gaines' people?

ALEXIS DRAZEN: No. You should of never used him. I told you it was a mistake.

ANDRE DRAZEN: Fine you fixed the mistake let's move on.

[ANDRE HEARS A GIRL LAUGHING AND IT REMINDED HIM OF THERE SISTER]

ANDRE DRAZEN: She looks like Martina.

ALEXIS DRAZEN: Our sister is dead Andre. Leave it alone.

ANDRE DRAZEN: You spoken to Jovan and Mishko?

ALEXIS DRAZEN: They have their targets in site. And as for Palmer I give you my word he will be dead by Midnight.

[ALEXIS AND ANDRE SMILE BIG]

INT. THE SAFE HOUSE

[Kim knocks on Teri's door]

[Kim finds out Teri is having a baby and Kim gets upset but then understands]

ROBERT ELLIS: Are there any other names on the HK list you recognize David?

SENATOR PALMER: Rich Dolan, Mike Redman that's it.

[MILO ENTERS]

JACK BAUER: Come in.

MILO: I shouldn't be here. Green's got me on priority.

SENATOR PALMER: I cleared it with Green.

JACK BAUER: Okay Bob he's here.

ROBERT ELLIS: Milo?

MILO: Yeah. Who are you?

ROBERT ELLIS: Don't worry about me. I see you opened up some sockets up to MI5.

MILO: Yeah, How did you know that?

ROBERT ELLIS: Doesn't matter. Right now we're trying to hook up some names. I'm going to help you. What's your login ID and password?

JACK BAUER: Give it to him.

MILO: The login ID is L-F-N. Password is foothill 94022 lower case.

ROBERT ELLIS: Okay hang on.........Okay looks like we got some partial results.

JACK BAUER: Partial?

ROBERT ELLIS: Yeah. Looks like there's something missing here.

SENATOR PALMER: What do you mean Bob?

ROBERT ELLIS: Something’s been removed.

[ELLIS SEES A MAN ENTER THE BAR AND STARE AT HIM AS ELLIS PULLS OUT HIS GUN AND HIDES IT UNDER HIS JACKET. THE MAN SEES THE GUN AND WALKS OUT]

ROBERT ELLIS: I'll look into it. Milo I'm going to send a file to your server. Why don't you print out hard copies for Jack and David.

MILO: Yeah sure.

JACK BAUER: Thanks Milo.

ROBERT ELLIS: All right here we go.

***FADE OUT***

INT. THE SAFE HOUSE

[Teri tries to get a hold of Jack and tell him but he's busy]

NINA MYERS: I'm sorry we really need to get started on the debrief. C.T.U.'S eager to find out what you know.

TERI BAUER: We're ready.

KIM BAUER: Yeah.

NINA MYERS: Great. I'd like to start with just you Teri.

TERI BAUER: Fine.

KIM BAUER: I think I'll go to my room.

TERI BAUER: That's a good idea honey. Try to get some rest.

[Kim takes Teri's cell and goes to her room]

NINA MYERS: This is standard. We are going to put you on videotape.

TERI BAUER: Fine.

[Kim calls Rick who I guess after all they have been through gave her his number]

RICK: Yeah.

KIM BAUER: Rick it's Kim.

RICK: Hey. Kim.

KIM BAUER: Are you okay?

RICK: Yeah. I just lost a little blood.

KIM BAUER: You need to see a doctor you don't sound good.

RICK: I just need a few days rest that's all.

KIM BAUER: You should turn yourself in, You can get medical attention.

RICK: I can also get arrested.

KIM BAUER: You helped us escape. I'll tell them that.

RICK: NO! Don't tell them anything about me.

KIM BAUER: It's too late. My mom's already being questioned. They're going to ask me about you. I'm next I can't lie.

RICK: Okay. Don't. Just tell them that I didn't know what was going on and that Dan threatened me. He had a gun.

KIM BAUER: Okay but promise me you'll turn yourself in.
