JACK BAUER {Voice over} The following takes place between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on the day of the California Presidential Primary.
{THE SUN IS DOWN AS JACK AND MASON KEEP ON WALKING THROUGH THE EMPTY SAUGUS FIELD.}
GEORGE MASON: You know what Jack. I take back what I said. It's getting dull.
JACK BAUER: That helicopter made a flyby for a reason.
GEORGE MASON: Maybe, maybe not.
JACK BAUER: Come here and help me with this.
{They lift open a trap door but turn out nothing.}
GEORGE MASON: There's nothing here. We're wasting our time.
JACK BAUER: Alexis tried to pay off a power company official to cut off the electricity at this location at 7:20 for a reason. There's something here that they want and they have gone to great lengths to shut it down.
{MASON'S CELL RINGS}
GEORGE MASON: Mason.........Excellent news........Half an hour. Don't let anyone in or out until we get there. {HANGS UP} Alexis Drazen just got out of surgery; I think we should be there when he wakes up.
JACK BAUER: You go ahead.
GEORGE MASON: Jack, we were fed misinformation. The address in the file, the time Morgan gave you. The whole thing. I mean look around. There's nothing here.....Nothing.
JACK BAUER: Maybe.
GEORGE MASON: But you’re going to stick around anyway?
JACK BAUER: It's three minutes after seven George. I want to be here at 7:20. ..........Look you can send a car back for me, okay? I promise I won't disappear on you.
GEORGE MASON: I don't have time to argue with you.
{MASON HEADS BACK THROUGH THE FIELD TO THE CAR LEAVING JACK ALL ALONE. JACK STARTS TO WALK TOWARD AN EMPTY ROAD.}

EXT. BAUER HOUSE, GARAGE
{TONY ALMEIDA IS HELPING THE VERY SCARED TERI BAUER TO HIS S.U.V. PHIL IS BEHIND THEM. HE IS SHOT}
TERI BAUER: {Crying} OH MY GOD...........
TONY ALMEIDA: Stay right here Teri.
PHIL PARSLOW: Who the hell was that guy?
TONY ALMEIDA: I don't know.
{TONY TURNS ON HIS HEADLIGHTS}
PHIL PARSLOW: Teri, Teri It's okay, I'm right here. Listen to me, take a breath.
TERI BAUER: I can't.......I CAN'T. I SAW THE CAR EXPLODE. THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT.
TONY ALMEIDA: Hey. KIM IS ALIVE. She got out before the explosion. I talked to her. She's fine, she’s worried about you.
TERI BAUER: Oh my God.
TONY ALMEIDA: I need your help Teri.
TERI BAUER: Oh my God.......What did she say? What did she say when you talked to her? Where is she?
TONY ALMEIDA: We don't know where she is. She wouldn't say.
TERI BAUER: What? What do mean you don't know?
TONY ALMEIDA: After the safe house she didn't trust us. I don't blame her.
TERI BAUER: WE HAVE TO FIND HER TONY.
TONY ALMEIDA: Believe we are. Teri, GET IN THE CAR.
{THEY ARE ALL IN AS TONY STARTS THE IGNITION.}
TERI BAUER: Where's Jack? Does he know what's happening?
TONY ALMEIDA: He's out on assignment, I should hear from him soon, though.
{TONY CALLS C.T.U.}
NINA MEYERS: C.T.U. MEYERS.
TONY ALMEIDA: It's me, I found Teri at the Bauer house. Someone was trying to kill her but I took the shooter down before he could get to her. Send a team over there in case he has backup.
NINA MEYERS: Of course. Is Teri all right?
TONY ALMEIDA: She will be; she’s suffering from some temporary memory loss. She's got a friend with her too. I'm thinking a pretty good one by the way he's acting.
NINA MEYERS: Wait a minute. Are you sure? Who is this guy?
TONY ALMEIDA: His name is Phil Parslow. She vouches for him. She's known him a long time. He was hit but not that bad.
NINA MEYERS: Okay, where are you?
TONY ALMEIDA: Twenty, thirty minutes away.
NINA MEYES: Take him to the clinic. I'll send someone to question him. I think you should bring Teri here.
TONY ALMEIDA: Okay.

{OFFICER KRUGMAN BRINGS IN THE GANG}
KIM BAUER: Don't I get a phone call?
KRUGMAN: Let's go lock 'em down.
KIM BAUER: Look I need to talk to someone.
KRUGMAN: Yeah, don't we all. Let's go.
MELANIE: Don't listen to the bitch. She lies.
KRUGMAN: You'll get a chance for that after we put you through. Come on your mine. {GRABS MELANIE}
{RICK AND KIM ARE CUFFED ON THE BENCH}
RICK: There going to ask you about Frank and the deal.
KIM BAUER: Well I don't know anything about Frank or the deal.
RICK: Tell them that. You were just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
KIM BAUER: I think I should tell them about everything else too. I mean what happened today. After the safe house I don't think I can trust anyone.
RICK: You trust me, right?
KIM BAUER: Yeah, look where it got me. {SMILES} Yes I trust you. I know your trying to do the right thing.
RICK: Okay then, listen to me. Tell them everything. What happened at the safe house has nothing to do with this. Whatever you tell them I'll back it up. Including my part in it.
KIM BAUER: Your going to get in trouble.
RICK: Then I'll get in trouble. It's about time I faced up to what I did.
KIM BAUER: All right.
{KRUGMAN CRABS KIM}
KRUGMAN: Your up.

{SENATOR PALMER JUST WALKS BACK INTO THE HOTEL TO FIND NICOLE ON THE BED}
SENATOR PALMER: How are you feeling?
NICOLE PALMER: I'm fine Daddy. I think that maybe living with a secret is harder work than I thought.
SENATOR PALMER: I'd be lying to you if I told you the hard part was over............You’re going to be asked some questions - we all are - that we'd rather not deal with. But if we stick together we'll get through it.
{THEY BOTH HUG AS SHERRY ENTERS}
SENATOR PALMER: Will you give your mother and me a few minutes?
{NICOLE GETS UP AND HUGS DAVID AGAIN THEN WALKS OVER AND HUGS SHERRY AS NICOLE EXITS}
SHERRY PALMER: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt your celebration.
SENATOR PALMER: You could of joined it.
SHERRY PALMER: We'll I'm not in mood to celebrate the end of your campaign David...............You just gave your concession speech.
SENATOR PALMER: That remains to be seen.
SHERRY PALMER: Do you think people want a president who acts like some guest on a bad afternoon talk show? Confessing his sins publicly?
SENATOR PALMER: It's always possible that they want someone honest. Mike seems to think that I still have a shot.
SHERRY PALMER: We'll it's Mike's job to tell you what you want to hear. Mine........Is to tell you the truth.
SENATOR PALMER: Your not qualified to tell me the truth.
SHERRY PALMER: It took 13 minutes to tear apart everything it took us 25 years to build. Why don't you just let me mourn that loss, okay?
SENATOR PALMER: Fair enough.
{SHERRY GETS OFF THE BED AND WALKS TOWARD THE BATHROOM}
SHERRY PALMER: I only hope your conscience comforts you when you finally realize this is all over.
SENATOR PALMER: You mean the campaign or us?
{SHERRY CLOSSES THE DOOR AS DAVID STARES IN THE MIRROR.}

{JACK IS STILL WONDERING DOWN THIS ROAD. HE CHECKS HIS WATCH. IT'S QUARTER AFTER SEVEN. HE WALKS PAST A FENCE, THEN WALKS BACK TOWARDS IT. SOME OF THE FENCE IS BENT. JACK CLIMBS OVER IT. FROM A DISTANCE WE SEE JUST AN IMAGE OF SOMETHING LOOKING AT JACK WALKING AROUND.................JACK COMES TO A STAIRWELL. HE EXAMINES IT AS HE WALKS DOWN THE STAIRS.}

EXT. 1/2 MILE AWAY FROM THE STAIRWELL. ANDRE DRAZEN HAS SET UP BASECAMP. HE IS OUT OF HIS SUITE AND WEARING ALL BLACK. HE HAS A TEAM OF HIGHLY TRAINED COMANDOS WITH HIM HEADED UP BY THERE LEADER HARRIS. HARRIS CONTACTS ANDRE FROM HIS LOCATION}
HARRIS: Confirm Alpha one.
ANDRE DRAZEN: This is Alpha one.
HARRIS: Bauer has gone into the room.
ANDRE DRAZEN: Positive it was Bauer?
HARRIS: Yes.
ANDRE DRAZEN: What's he doing here?
HARRIS: He wasn't invited that's for sure.

{JACK GETS TO BOTTOM OF THE STAIRWELL AS A HIGH PITCHED ALARM SOUNDS OFF WITH BLUE LIGHTS FLASHING EVERYWHERE. JACK SCREAMING IT'S SO LOUD AS A DOOR OPENS AND A MAN FIRES A TAZZER GUN AT JACK AND KNOCKS HIM OUT COLD. THE MEN DRAG JACK INTO THE ROOM}

{JACK WAKES UP; HE WAS LAID ON A BED IN A HOLDING ROOM. HE RUNS FOR THE SINK AND THROWS UP A LITTLE AS SOMEONE WALKS IN}
JACK BAUER: My name is Jack Bauer. I work for
MAN: C.T.U. I know who you are agent Bauer I checked you out. My name is De Salvo. D.O.D.
JACK BAUER: Whatever this place is, it’s obvious that no one's supposed to know it's here.
MARK De Salvo: well you seemed to find it all right. This is a prison facility. Class 3 detention center. So what the hell are you doing here?
JACK BAUER: At 8:00 a.m. this morning there was an assassination attempt on Senator Palmer. I'm the led investigator. I was following the threat. It led me here.
MARK De Salvo: I need more than that.
JACK BAUER: The people that want Palmer dead bribed someone from the power company to shut down the electricity to the grid that your hooked into. They were ordered to do this at 7:20..................Something’s going to happen then isn't it?.......Mr. De Salvo, you better listen to me. The people behind this assassination attempt are ex military Serbs. There working for a family called the Drazens. There on a vendetta, they’ve killed a lot of people today and are willing to kill a lot more unless we do something. Please sir, I'll ask you one more time. What is happening at 7:20?
MARK De Salvo: A prisoner's being delivered by chopper.
JACK BAUER: Who?
MARK De Salvo: His identity is classified, even from me. They move him every few weeks. What do these Drazens want with him anyway?
JACK BAUER: I don't know. They might want to kill him or set him free. Either way you've got about five minutes. You better call for backup.
MARK De Salvo: Backup can't get here in five minutes.
JACK BAUER: Call anyway. If I'm wrong, you’ve gone through little trouble. I'll take the heat for that; if I'm right then you have saved every life in this building............Please.
{DE SALVO CALLS FOR BACKUP}
MARK De Salvo: Have Wycoff call me ASAP.
JACK BAUER: Thank you......What's your personnel here?
MARK De Salvo: 3 guards plus a maintenance man and two technicians.
JACK BAUER: The maintenance man and the technicians, are they weapons trained?
MARK De Salvo: No the civilians have never fired a weapon in their lives.
JACK BAUER: The Drazens don't know that. Issue them full service gear. Have them stand by.
MARK De Salvo: To do what exactly?
JACK BAUER: To make this place more secure than it looks.

EXT. DRAZEN BASECAMP
{HARRIS ENTERS THE TENT}
ANDRE DRAZEN: Almost time. Three minutes.
HARRIS: You still haven't heard from your brother?
ANDRE DRAZEN: No.
HARRIS: He was supposed to verify his meeting with the power company official.
ANDRE DRAZEN: If there was a problem he would of called. .............You seem anxious Harris. I thought professionals didn't get anxious.
HARRIS: Professionals get very anxious when a plan goes off the tracks.
ANDRE DRAZEN: There's nothing wrong with the plan.
HARRIS: Then what was Bauer doing here?
ANDRE DRAZEN: Just get your men ready. It's time.
{HARRIS'S MEN QUITELY RUN FROM BASECAMP TO A SMALL HILL LESS THAN A MINUTE AWAY FROM THE STAIRWELL. WE HEAR MACHINE GUNS LOADING. ANDRE DRAZEN JOINS THEM. HE IS LAID DOWN NEXT TO HARRIS WITH HIS BIN'S.}
INT. PRISON WEAPONS ROOM
{THE GUARDS ARE LOADING UP THERE WEAPONS AS JACK THROWS A BULLET VEST OVER HIM}
JACK BAUER: Weapon.
{A GUARD HANDS JACK A MACHINE GUN.}
MARK De Salvo: Everyone ready?
GUARD: Yes sir.
JACK BAUER: Let's go.
{A GUARD OPENS THE DOOR }
{ANDRE, HARRIS AND THE SERBS ALL SEE THE HELICOPTER AS IT FLIES OVER THEM. THE STAIRWELL LIGHTS TURN ON AS JACK, De Salvo, AND THE GUARDS RUN UP THE STAIRS.}
JACK BAUER: STAY IN FRONT OF THE LIGHTS WHERE YOU CAN BE SEEN.
MARK De Salvo: Form a line in front of the lights. Look like your ready for something.

{THE CHOPPER LANDS}

{THE GUARDS SECURE THE CHOPPER. THE BRING OUT A MAN WITH A BLUE SHEET OVER HIS FACE IN CUFFS.}

HARRIS: You said there would be a warden and three guards. I count eight including Bauer......There expecting us Andre.
ANDRE DRAZEN: Doesn't matter. The power's going down in 25 seconds the sudden darkness will disorient them.
HARRIS: What if there is no darkness?
ANDRE DRAZEN: There will be............8 more seconds.
{AS ANDRE COUNTS DOWN THE SECONDS THE GUARDS ARE GETTING THIS MYSTERY MAN OUT OF THE CHOPPER}
ANDRE DRAZEN: Five, four, three, two, one.........................................................
HARRIS: Perimeter lights are still on.
ANDRE DRAZEN: DAMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All right we're still going.
HARRIS: No, security is twice what we anticipated. The lights are on; we’ll be cut to pieces.
ANDRE DRAZEN: GET READY TO MOVE!!!!!!!
HARRIS: We have to stand down.
ANDRE DRAZEN: MY MONEY, MY DECISION.
HARRIS: My crew. They'll obey my orders.
{ANDRE THINKS ABOUT IT FOR A MINUTE............THEN}
ANDRE DRAZEN: All right.
{RADIO} HARRIS: Plans have changed. Stand down.
{BAUER, DE SALVO, THE GUARDS, AND THE MYSTERY MAN ALL WALK BACK DOWN THE STAIRWELL AS THE LIGHTS TURN OFF AND THE CHOPPER FLIES AWAY.}

{KIM IS BEING QUESTIONED BY OFFICER KRUGMAN}
KRUGMAN: Sit down.
KIM BAUER: My father is Jack Bauer.
KRUGMAN: Sit.
KIM BAUER: He's the director of the Los Angeles Bureau of C.T.U. Counter Terrorist Unit. Have you heard of it?
KRUGMAN: I can't say that I have.
KIM BAUER: Do you want the number?
KRUGMAN: Look, what I want is information on Frank Allard and his plans to buy and distribute 1,000 hits of ecstasy, that's it.
KIM BAUER: I don't know him. I met him for the first time a couple of hours ago.........Do you know that someone tried to kill David Palmer this morning?
KRUGMAN: Yeah.
KIM BAUER: Aren't you curious how I know about it?
KRUGMAN: We'll I don't know. Maybe it's because it's been on the news the last 12 hours.
KIM BAUER: I didn't realize that, I was kidnapped.......By the same people that who are trying to kill Senator Palmer.
KRUGMAN: Okay you know she told me you had an active imagination.
KIM BAUER: Who?
KRUGMAN: Your friend, the one we picked you up with.
KIM BAUER: Melanie? No, she's not my friend. She thinks I want her boyfriend.
KRUGMAN: Okay I'm going to stick you back in the holding cell. Maybe that will convince you not to screw around.
KIM BAUER: Call this number; tell them I am Jack Bauer's daughter and that I'm here. Ask them if they think I'm screwing around.
KRUGMAN: Come on.

{GUARDS SEND THE MYSTERY MAN INTO A HOLDING CELL.}
JACK BAUER: De Salvo, wait. Just because they haven't attacked yet doesn't mean there not going to.
MARK De Salvo: Maybe this is all a crock and there's nobody out there.
JACK BAUER: Drazen's crew is out there. Don't you get it? They didn't get the power to shut down. They're working on a contingency plan. Trust me I know these people.
MARK De Salvo: I've requested backup. There's not much more I can do.
JACK BAUER: There is. You can let me talk to that prisoner.
MARK De Salvo: Forget it. I can't give access to something I can't give. My orders are explicit. I told you I can't even speak to him myself.
JACK BAUER: Don't you understand that everything happening here is connected to the assassination attempt on Palmer. If you do not let me interrogate him, you're putting the senator's life in danger. Do you want that responsibility?
MARK De Salvo: Look, Bauer, your welcome to go over my head if you want but I can't help you......Now I have to process this guy.
{MARK WALKS DOWN THE HALLWAY}
JACK BAUER: Wait. You said you work for the D.O.D. right?
MARK De Salvo: And?
JACK BAUER: Can I use your phone?

SENATOR PALMER: {On Phone} Yes I want to clear every interview that Nicole gives.
{MIKE NOVIC ENTERS AND TURNS ON T.V.}
SENATOR PALMER: So, Is it as bad as Sherry said it would be?
{ON T.V. THE ANCORMAN IS TALKING}
ANCORMAN: Predicted a sharp drop in Senator Palmer’s numbers. It's not turning out that way. Our instant polls indicate that Senator's base of support is holding steady in most areas of the country. And in some cases, it’s actually increasing. When asked if the Senator's disclosures made them more likely to vote for him in the general election. 60% said no difference. 22% said more likely.
MIKE NOVIC: Look's like we were right David.
STAFF MEMBER: Senator. Jack Bauer is on the phone.
SENATOR PALMER: Thank you.............................................Jack it's me. Did you get anything from Alexis Drazen?
JACK BAUER: No sir he's still in surgery but I did follow up on a lead we got from his hotel room. Senator I'm going to need your help.
SENATOR PALMER: Go on.
JACK BAUER: I'm at a class 3 detention center. Basically it's a prison that doesn't exist and neither does the prisoner they brought in.
SENATOR PALMER: Who's the prisoner?
JACK BAUER: That's were I need your help sir. This place is run by the Department Of Defense.
SENATOR PALMER: You want me to pull some strings?
JACK BAUER: I need access to the prisoner as soon as you can make it happen. The facility's located in Saugus at the address you gave me. The warden's name is De Salvo. He's a reasonable guy but right now his hands are tied.
{JACK RIGHT NOW WHILE ON THE PHONE IS FOLLOWING A BUNCH OF WIRES TO THE MAIN CONTROL ROOM}
SENATOR PALMER: I'll do what I can.
JACK BAUER: Thank you sir. {HANGS UP]
{JACK FINDS THE MAIN CONTROL ROOM AND ENTERS IT. HE SEE'S A BUNCHES OF IMAGES FROM DIFFERENT CAMERA ANGLES. HE FINDS THE ONE WITH THE MYSTERY MAN IN IT BUT HIS FACE IS TURNED AROUND SO JACK CAN'T SEE HIM}
JACK BAUER: Turn around you son of a bitch.
{DE SALVO ENTERS}
MARK De Salvo: DAMIT I TOLD YOU BAUER THAT PRISONER'S IDENITY IS CLASSIFIED.
JACK BAUER: Sorry but I told you I need to know who that prisoner is.
MARK De Salvo: No.
{JACK CAN'T BELIEVE WHO HE IS SEEING IN THAT HOLDING ROOM}
JACK BAUER: Oh My God...........That's impossible.
MARK De Salvo: You recognize him?
JACK BAUER: That's Victor Drazen.
MARK De Salvo: Who is he?
JACK BAUER: The man I killed two years ago.

MARK De Salvo: All right listen. Your asking me to risk my job, maybe go to jail. I need some quid pro quo. What's your connection to this guy?
JACK BAUER: What I'm about to tell you is secured information. Two years ago a Congressional subcommittee decided that Victor Drazen was the key threat to the peace in Bosnia. They authorized a mission to take him out. I led that mission. When we got there things went wrong. Earlier today I found out that Victor's wife and daughter were killed in the attack. I thought we killed Victor. I was wrong.
MARK De Salvo: So now his sons want to break him out.
JACK BAUER: More than that. They want to exact a revenge plan on me. Earlier today his people kidnapped my wife and daughter. We got them back. They’re safe for now. But if Victor Drazen escapes from here, I will lose any leverage I've got of keeping his people away from my family.
MARK De Salvo: I'll make another call
JACK BAUER: We don't have time for calls. We need to take this prisoner and move him ourselves now.
MARK De Salvo: I said I'll make another call.

{ANDRE DRAZEN IS LOOKING AT THE SCAMATICS OF THE PRISON FACILITY}
ANDRE DRAZEN: We still need to cut the power.
HARRIS: But your brother still hasn't contacted us yet.
ANDRE DRAZEN: He would of called by now..........................If he were alive. We should assume Alexis is dead. There maybe another way though. The substation for this sector is a half mile from here. A few ounces of c-5 should be sufficient. To save time we'll go through the front.
HARRIS: The idea is not to attract attention.
ANDRE DRAZEN: The idea is to get my father out of prison. This is the best chance we'll ever have.

{GEORGE MASON RETURNS}
NINA MEYERS: Where's Jack. I thought he was with you?
GEORGE MASON: He opted to stay in the field.
NINA MEYERS: Where?
GEORGE MASON: In Saugus.
NINA MEYERS: The address he got from the Drazen file?
GEORGE MASON: Yes.
NINA MEYERS: What's he doing there? Why didn't he come back with you?
GEORGE MASON: I don't know. He's a stubborn guy. Meanwhile Alexis Drazen came to at the hospital. He hasn't talked yet but I cut off his morphine supply so he should be pretty chatty in about an hour.
NINA MEYERS: You didn't tell Jack about his family did you? What are you doing George?
GEORGE MASON: What are you doing? Last time I checked it wasn't apart of my job to explain myself to my subordinates. Now unless they called off the hit on Palmer, you should be working on securing his agenda for the rest of the day.......Looks like he's going to be our next president.

SHERRY PALMER: Everyone's outside celebrating the latest poll. Come on out sweetheart.
{DAVID JUST STARES AT SHERRY AS SHE CLOSES THE DOOR}
SHERRY PALMER: What's the matter?
SENATOR PALMER: Before when you said it was over and I asked you what you meant: The campaign or me?

{JACK WALKS TO THE HOLDING CELL DOOR. THE GUARD LETS HIM IN AS JACK ENTERS. VICTOR IS SITTING DOWN}

{VICTOR JUST STARES AT JACK WITH ANGER}

VICTOR DRAZEN: Then you'll have nothing to worry about.
JACK BAUER: Call it off Victor.
