JACK BAUER: The following takes place between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

{We hear sirens wailing in the distance as rescue teams race to CTUEddie, His crew, and Jack take off in the van}

INT. C.T.U.

{C.T.U. is half destroyed. agents are all over the place. Most of them dead as rescue workers help with Paula. She is trapped. Michelle searches for Tony.}

TONY ALMEIDA: Can we get some help over here. Michelle. I need you to set up a triage. Here, take Luke with you. Paula, can you here me?

PAULA: {Barely alive.} What ...what happened?

TONY ALMEIDA: You don't have to speak. Just blink your eyes if you can hear me.

{PAULA BLINKS}

TONY ALMEIDA: We are going to get you out of there. {To Doctor} Look she's bad man. We have to get a crane or hydraulic lift or something.

DOCTOR: We have to be careful. If we pull off the wrong piece that whole thing could come down on her. We have to do this brick by brick.

TONY ALMEIDA: That's going to take forever.........Okay let's do it.

{KIM AND MEGAN ARE IN THE C.T.U. PARKING GARAGE.}

KIM BAUER: It's okay. Everything is fine.

MEGAN: I don't feel very well.

KIM BAUER: It's okay. We are going to be out of here soon.

{MEGAN COLLAPSES.}

KIM BAUER: MEGAN!!!! SOMEBODY HELP ME.

DOCTOR: Hold her down.

KIM BAUER: What's wrong with her?

DOCTOR: Hold her down!!!! She's seizing. We've got to get her to the E.R. right away.

INT. THE O.C. MEETING ROOM

ERIC RAYBURN: Sir we did everything we could.

PRESIDENT PALMER: If only Bauer had called earlier. Even a few minutes. We could have saved those people.

ERIC RAYBURN: Until we know more I'd like to go over my evacuation plan of L.A. It's on your desk.

PRESIDENT PALMER: I'll call you when I'm ready to meet on it.

ERIC RAYBURN: Thank you sir.

{PALMER LEAVES}

LYNNE: Those people are dead because of you. I wanted to tell the President.

ERIC RAYBURN: But you didn't.

LYNNE: Because of you Eric. You made sure that I couldn't get through to him.

ERIC RAYBURN: As far as I know, Bauer never called. You were the only person who talked to him.

LYNNE: Are you blackmailing me?

ERIC RAYBURN: I'm protecting the President. Lynne, whatever you know or think you know I suggest you keep it to yourself.

11:05:17......11:05:18......11:05:19......

{MASON IS SITTING IN THE AMBULANCE AS THE DOCTOR WALKS UP TO HIM}

DOCTOR: Everything in your car, I had it cleared out and put into the ambulance. Whenever you’re ready to go to the hospital.

GEORGE MASON: Uh, So how's it going to happen?

DOCTOR: Excuse me.

GEORGE MASON: You said I might be dead by tomorrow. I'm just kind of curious to know what to expect for the rest of the day.

DOCTOR: There's a latent period where you'll be mostly asymptomatic even in the most extreme cases of radiation poisoning. It can last a while.

GEORGE MASON: What's a while?

DOCTOR: Up to 12 hours. Maybe longer. How do you feel now?

GEORGE MASON: Like I'm going to puke.

DOCTOR: I can give you something to control the nausea.

GEORGE MASON: Thanks.

DOCTOR: Until the symptoms are more acute.

GEORGE MASON: Like what?

DOCTOR: Your hair will start to fall out.

GEORGE MASON: I'm used to that.

DOCTOR: You'll start to manifest gastrointestinal hemorrhaging, skin lesions, bleeding from the mouth and the nose.

GEORGE MASON: {Scoffs} Okay, so how am I going to die?

DOCTOR: Your mental functioning will begin to deteriorate and uh

{AN OFFICER INTERUPTS THE DOCTOR}

OFFICER: Mr. Mason?

DOCTOR: Not now please.

OFFICER: Mr. Mason it's important.

DOCTOR: Not now.

GEORGE MASON: It's okay. {Grabs phone from officer} Tony?

TONY ALMEIDA: THEY HIT US GEORGE, THEY BOMBED C.T.U.

GEORGE MASON: What kind of damage?

TONY ALMEIDA: Damage reports are still coming in, but so far we've got 19 dead, 20 wounded and seven missing. Look we're bleeding bad George. All of our intel on the nuke was destroyed. It's on the N.S.A. server but Paula wrote the decryption code and she's in really bad shape.

GEORGE MASON: Just do whatever you have to to retrieve it.

TONY ALMEIDA: Well yeah I am. That's what I'm trying to do. That's why I called you. Chain of command remember?

GEORGE MASON: Call N.S.A. systems people. Get them on it.

TONY ALMEIDA: I already did George.

GEORGE MASON: Good.

TONY ALMEIDA: Look when are you coming back here?

GEORGE MASON: I'm not sure.

TONY ALMEIDA: Well the sooner the better.

GEORGE MASON: Look, the truth is I may not be coming back.

TONY ALMEIDA: Why not?

GEORGE MASON: I'm really not in a position to help right now.

TONY ALMEIDA: What are you talking about? Look, a nuclear device is set to go off sometime today in Los Angeles. We just lost half the people who were in position to keep it from happening SO DON'T TELL ME YOUR STILL TRYING TO COVER YOUR OWN ASS.......

GEORGE MASON: Look just deal with it Tony.

TONY ALMEIDA: Yeah right. {HANGS UP}

{EDDIE AND THE CREW PULL UP A DIRT ROAD AND THEY GET OUT}

EDDIE GRANT: Jack you come with me.

{THE OTHER MEN BEGIN TO SET THE VAN ON FIRE}

{EDDIE CALL'S JOE}

EDDIE GRANT: Hey Joe it's done....No nothing....Yeah.....Yeah I can do it. Give me the address. {Writes the address on a matchbook} All right...Out. {HANGS UP}

JACK BAUER: That Joe?

EDDIE GRANT: Yeah.

{EDDIE STARTS TO GET IN A CAR AS JACK GET'S ON HIS KNEES AND POINTS HIS GUN AT EDDIE}

JACK BAUER: Give me the matchbook Eddie.

EDDIE GRANT: What the hell you doing Jack?

JACK BAUER: I'm a Federal Officer, your under arrest now give me the matchbook.

EDDIE GRANT: Jack you helped plant those bombs and you cut Goran's head off.

JACK BAUER: I know what I did Eddie. Put your right hand on the steering wheel.

{EDDIE DOES WHAT JACK SAYS}

JACK BAUER: Very slowly with your left hand give me your gun.

EDDIE GRANT: You know Jack when Joe finds out about this you’re a dead man.

JACK BAUER: Shut up Eddie and get out of the car.

{EDDIE'S CREW SEE'S JACK POINTING HIS GUN AT EDDIE AND THEY OPEN FIRE ON JACK.}

{FIRE FIGHT BEGINS}

DAVE: SON OF A BITCH........

{JACK CHARGES AT THEM AND KILL'S BOTH OF THEM AS EDDIE GETS IN THE CAR AND TRY'S TO RAM JACK OFF THE ROAD, JACK FIRES SEVERAL BULLETS INTO THE CAR KILLING EDDIE.}

{JACK PUSHES EDDIE'S DEAD BODY OUT OF THE CAR AND HEADS FOR JOE'S PLACE}

{JACK CALL'S C.T.U.}

MICHELLE DESSLER: Tony Almeida's line.

JACK BAUER: Who's this?

MICHELLE DESSLER: This is Michelle Dessler, who's this?

JACK BAUER: Michelle it's Jack Bauer what's going on over there?

MICHELLE DESSLER: There was an explosion about 20 minutes ago. Twenty one casualties, the number’s growing.

JACK BAUER: Why wasn't C.T.U. evacuated?

MICHELLE DESSLER: There wasn't enough time.

JACK BAUER: What do you mean there wasn't enough time? What about Mason? Is he all right?

MICHELLE DESSLER: He wasn't here.

JACK BAUER: What about Tony Almeida?

MICHELLE DESSLER: He's okay. He's helping the rescue workers right now.

JACK BAUER: Fine can you handle a situation report?

MICHELLE DESSLER: Yeah. Go ahead.

JACK BAUER: I've located Joseph Wald. I'm on my way there now.

MICHELLE DESSLER: What about Wald's crew?

JACK BAUER: There all dead.

MICHELLE DESSLER: Dead?

JACK BAUER: Just tell Mason I'm on my way to Joseph Wald's house. The address is 221 Canyon View Road in Simi Valley.

MICHELLE DESSLER: Okay I'll send backup.

JACK BAUER: Okay.

INT. C.T.U.

{TONY IS HELPING THE RESCUE WORKERS TRYING TO SAVE PAULA'S LIFE}

INT. HOSPITAL

KIM BAUER: Is Megan all right?

DOCTOR: She will be. Her seizure was caused by pressure on the brain.

KIM BAUER: Well we got out in time. She wasn't injured in the explosion.

DOCTOR: Yes I know. From what I've seen her head injury most likely occurred before the blast. Megan's X-rays indicate other prior injuries. A possible pattern of abuse.

KIM BAUER: You don't think I did this? You don't think I hurt her?

DOCTOR: I'm going to let the police sort that out.

INT. THE O.C.

{THE PRESIDENT, LYNNE, ERIC RAYBURN AND SOME OTHERS ALL WATCH THE NEWS REPORTS ON THE C.T.U. BOMBING}

ERIC RAYBURN: As far as I'm concerned this tips in favor of evacuation.

PRESIDENT PALMER: I assume you all read Eric's report recommending the evacuation of Los Angeles?

ERIC RAYBURN: The C.T.U. bombing is just the beginning. It's only a matter of time before the questions become rumors, and the rumors set off a mass panic.

LYNNE: Wouldn't the evacuation itself cause panic?

ERIC RAYBURN: We can do this discreetly, in stages. We've prepared cover stories.

LYNNE: That's a pretty tough sell for nine million people.

ERIC RAYBURN: General Preston assures me that the military can contain any civilian unrest.

LYNNE: Contain sounds rather like a euphemism.

ERIC RAYBURN: I don't claim that this will be a cakewalk.

LYNNE: Our intel is very specific about this nuclear device being detonated sometime today. Your report says that it would take up to a week for this evacuation.

ERIC RAYBURN: It's my job to protect as many citizens of the United States as I can. If I can get even 20% of the population outside of the blast radius, that's a win.

LYNNE: We don't even know where the bomb is. Where do we begin this evacuation?

ERIC RAYBURN: My staff has ranked 10 high probability target areas.

PRESIDENT PALMER: That's not good enough. Do you have anything else to add?

LYNNE: No sir.

PRESIDENT PALMER: Then we're done here. Until we know where the bomb is located there will be no evacuation.

{Jack is in the car on his way to Joe's place. He needs to contact the President}

JACK BAUER: This is Jack Bauer I need to speak with the President right away. It's urgent.

OPERATOR: One moment please.

{Lynne answers}

LYNNE KRESGE: Lyne Kresge.

OPERATOR: I have Jack Bauer on the line. He insists on speaking with the President.

LYNNE KRESGE: Put him through.......Mr.Bauer this is Lynne Kresge.

JACK BAUER: I asked to speak with the President.

LYNNE KRESGE: I'm sorry he's unavailable. Perhaps I can help.

JACK BAUER: What the hell are you people doing over there? I gave you a 30 minute warning before that building was supposed to be hit. You had plenty of time to evacuate personnel!

LYNE KRESGE: Mr.Bauer there were some extenuating circumstances. I did try to tell the President. It's more complicated than I'm able to explain at this time.

JACK BAUER: I'm sorry that's not good enough.

LYNNE KRESGE: That's all I can offer you.

JACK BAUER: Ms.Kresge, right?

LYNNE KRESGE: Yes.

JACK BAUER: You’re responsible for killing a lot of innocent people today. People I work with, friends of mine.

LYNNE KRESGE: I realize that. Right now you are the best chance we have of intercepting that nuclear weapon. I suggest you do your job.

JACK BAUER: I'll do my job!!!! You people better start doing yours.

EXT. THE WARNER HOUSE

KATE WARNER: Dad?

BOB WARNER: Yes.

KATE WARNER: Sorry to interrupt but I need to talk to you.

BOB WARNER: What's the big emergency?

KATE WARNER: Last month I was going over the P and L's for the third quarter. I found some inconsistencies.

BOB WARNER: If this is about business we'll deal with this on Monday. Okay?

KATE WARNER: Dad it's about Reza.

BOB WARNER: What about Reza?

KATE WARNER: I thought he might be the one responsible for the missing money. So I hired an investigator to do an audit.

BOB WARNER: You hired someone to spy on Reza?

KATE WARNER: I thought he was stealing from you.

BOB WARNER: And is he?

KATE WARNER: No. But something else came up. Something a lot worse.

{THEY BOTH SIT}

KATE WARNER: Reza may be involved with a terrorist.

BOB WARNER: What?

KATE WARNER: He's been in contact with someone who finances terrorist operations. A man named Syed Ali.

BOB WARNER: What kind of proof does he have?

KATE WARNER: I'm not sure.

BOB WARNER: You’re not sure.

KATE WARNER: He only called me about this an hour ago. He told me not to tell anyone, but I had to tell you.

BOB WARNER: Whatever this investigator found there's an explanation for it. Honey, you hire a man to dig up dirt, he's gonna dig up dirt. That's how these guys stay in business.

KATE WARNER: What if you’re wrong?

BOB WARNER: I'm not.

KATE WARNER: How do you know?

BOB WARNER: {Leans back in his chair} Because I had Reza checked out myself. And a lot more thoroughly than the guy you hired. Believe me. Kate, Reza is not a terrorist.

{REZA ENTERS}

REZA: Hey guys.

BOB WARNER: Hey.

REZA: I think my cousin has a little crush on you Kate. He wouldn't stop talking about you on the ride back to his hotel.

KATE WARNER: He seems nice.

REZA: He is.

KATE WARNER: Well I promised Marie I'd pick up lunch. I'd better get going.

REZA: Let me take you.

KATE WARNER: It's okay. I can handle it.

REZA: When you see how much she ordered you’re going to need an extra pair of hands.

KATE WARNER: Really I can do it.

BOB WARNER: Kate, Go.

{KATE LEAVES WITH REZA}

{George Mason is in the medical van. The doc hands George his radio. Tony Almeida is on the line.}

GEORGE MASON: Tony.

TONY ALMEIDA: George.

GEORGE MASON: I thought I told you to handle this yourself.

TONY ALMEIDA: The I.T. people need to access the data stream Paula was working on. It's on your system so I need your password.

GEORGE MASON: Hendrix.

TONY ALMEIDA: Thanks.

GEORGE MASON: Tony?

TONY ALMEIDA: What?

GEORGE MASON: How's Paula doing?

TONY ALMEIDA: Not so good. We're still trying to dig her out but she's non-responsive. Look I’ve got to go.

GEORGE MASON: Okay. {HANGS UP} Am I contagious?

DOCTOR: No.

11:30:02......11:30:03......11:30:04......

{Jack drives into Joe's driveway and runs up to his front door. He bangs on the door.}

JACK BAUER: JOE LET ME IN.

JOE WALD: Where's Eddie?

JACK BAUER: He's dead.

JOE WALD: What about Chris and Scott?

JACK BAUER: They're dead too - let me in.

* Lock clicks as Joe let's Jack inside *

JOE WALD: I just talked to Eddie a half an hour ago. He said the job went off without a hitch. What happened between then and now?

* Jack pulls out his little six shooter and aims it at Joe. *

JACK BAUER: I killed them for resisting arrest. I'll kill you too Joe. Put it down....PUT IT DOWN NOW ON THE TABLE.... Have a seat on the couch.

* Joe sits down and Jack grabs the shotgun, cocks it and points it at Joe. *

JOE WALD: You killed Goran.

JACK BAUER: I did what I had to do to find you.

JOE WALD: Come on Jack, what do you want?

JACK BAUER: Who told you to hit C.T.U. today?

JOE WALD: What makes you think anyone told me to do anything?

JACK BAUER: BECAUSE THERE'S A NUCLEAR DEVICE SOMEWHERE IN LOS ANGELES SET TO GO OFF TODAY. That's right Joe. C.T.U. was a secondary target. A way of stopping us from getting to the bomb. Whoever got you to do this, they used you. They set you up.

JOE WALD: You’re lying Jack.

JACK BAUER: No Joe, this time I'm telling you the truth. How else do you think I got to Goran? Come on Joe think about it. Why did you hit C.T.U. today? One last chance. Who told you to hit C.T.U. today?

* A pit bull runs and tackles Jack as Joe runs for it and locks himself in a room. Jack kills the dog and enters a shed. Jack tries to bust the lock on the door where Joe is hiding but he is having no luck. *

JACK BAUER: Open the door Joe........*BANG, BANG, * OPEN THE DOOR.
